  • Better careers in Infocomm Technology sectors

    First announced in the 2016 Budget, TeSA is a tripartite initiative by the government, industry and NTUC to build and develop a skilled ICT workforce for the Singapore economy, and to enhance individual’s employability outcomes. 

    With a strong projected demand for skilled ICT professionals over the next few years, TeSA will be scaling up its current suite of programmes. 

    TeSA will be augmented by initiatives such as the Overseas Singaporeans in Tech (OST) LinkedIn community - an online community platform facilitating networking among overseas Singaporeans and the local professionals.  The group will provide OST, with relevant citizen resources, updates on latest trends in the local tech ecosystem and inform them of job opportunities in Singapore. The OST is a joint partnership between the industry and government agencies including Singapore Global Network, Ministry of Communications (MCI), Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG), GovTech Agency (GovTech), and Economic Development Board (EDB).

  • Deepening skillsets of media professionals

    The media manpower plan, developed by Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), aims to address the manpower challenge in the media sector and develop a future-ready workforce. The plan will focus on three areas and the following initiatives:

    3. Increasing the employability of the media workforce

  • Fostering the growth of Singapores media industry

    The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) aims to grow Singapore’s media sector by nurturing competitive Singapore media companies and creating good jobs in the sector for Singaporeans. 

    IMDA will strengthen Singapore’s media industry through the Future of Media strategy (FoM). It seeks to grow the local media industry through content partnerships and capability development, and leveraging new data and technology to create more compelling content to engage audiences both locally and internationally.

  • Government Bug Bounty Programme

    The Government Technology Agency (GovTech) and Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) have successfully concluded the Government Bug Bounty Programme (GBBP) from 27 December 2018 to 16 January 2019. 


    The GBBP is part of the Singapore Government’s ongoing efforts to build a secure and resilient Smart Nation. By bringing together a community of cyber defenders who share the common goal of developing a safe and resilient cyberspace, the GBBP aims to build collective ownership over the cybersecurity of government systems and websites, which is vital to achieve Singapore’s Smart Nation goals.

  • Singapore becomes a Common Criteria Certificate Authorising Nation

    With Singapore achieving a Certificate Authorising Nation status, local developers no longer need to send their IT security product overseas for certification. Developers based in Singapore can enjoy lower costs and shorter waiting times in attaining an internationally-recognised certification mark. This facilitates the exportability of IT security products produced in Singapore and strengthens Singapore’s competitiveness in the global cybersecurity market.

  • Top-up to services and digital economy domain budget

    The Services and Digital Economy (SDE) domain is one of the four strategic technology domains under the $19 billion Research, Innovation & Enterprise (RIE) 2020 Plan. RIE 2020 signals Singapore’s strong and continued commitment to research and development, and innovation and enterprise efforts from 2016 to 2020. Specifically, the SDE domain aims to develop and integrate Singapore’s digital innovation capabilities to meet national priorities and aid in industry transformation of key industries in the services sector.

    To further strengthen our innovation capacities and remain globally competitive, the SDE budget will be increased by an additional $300 million, that is almost double that of the current budget committed. This increase will help to further boost our Smart Nation and Digital Economy aspirations in the mid to long term. It is part of the next phase of the National Research Foundation (NRF)’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2020 plan, which will be announced at a later date.

  • TradeTrust - A trusted global network for digitally interconnected trade documents

    International trade forms the backbone of Singapore’s open and trade-friendly economy. With the opportunities provided by new digital technologies, Singapore aims to work with various countries to accelerate digital innovation in global trade.

    Working with various agencies and industry partners both locally and overseas, Singapore seeks to develop an interoperability framework, TradeTrust, for the seamless exchange of digital trade documentation. The framework aims to:

    Reduce inefficiencies and complexities of cross-border trade arising from current paper-based documentation 
    Lower operating costs for businesses  Lower the risk of fraud 
    Promote growth in trade

  • Bringing our archives into the future

    The National Archives has been an important custodian of Singapore’s history and collective memories. The revamped NAS building, located at Canning Rise, will reopen in April 2019. The new building will have more publicly accessible areas, services and facilities such as:

    Regular screenings of old and contemporary films as well as curated programmes at the new NAS in partnership with the Asian Film Archives (AFA).  Three new oral history recording studios to facilitate oral recordings of these important oral accounts. The launch of a new e-Request system to allow users to place requests to view or ask for reproduction of copies online to improve NAS’ records. 

    Working with the community on digital projects in vernacular languages

    The National Library has been working closely with various communities on digital projects in vernacular languages:

    The Singapore Biographical Database of Chinese Personalities, launched on 1 Feb 2019, NLB collaborated with the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, and NUS’ Singapore’s Department of Chinese Studies.
    Digital Archive of Singapore Tamil Theatre, a collaboration between NLB and the Tamil Digital Heritage Group (TDHG) was launched in November 2017.
    Work is underway for the Malay community to document the rich and varied Malay theatre heritage in Singapore.

  • Digital Participation Pledge

    Private, people and public organisations play an important role in bridging the digital divide to build an inclusive society. In support of the Digital Readiness (DR) movement, the Digital Participation Pledge (DPP) encourages organisations from these sectors to take action and help more people become digitally ready. The pledge is one of the recommendations of the DR Blueprint launched in June 2018.


    Organisations can pledge their support in one or more of the four following areas:  

    Equipping employees with digital skills
    Educating customers, clients or stakeholders on the use of their digital services 
    Offering and designing their digital services to be inclusive and safe; and 
    Volunteering or providing resources to support digital readiness efforts

  • Digital Readiness Council

    As we strive towards becoming a Smart Nation, we need to ensure that the benefits of digitalisation are enjoyed by all citizens, including those who are less digitally savvy. 

    The Digital Readiness Council brings together government, industry and community, to provide strategic direction for national Digital Readiness initiatives and guide collective efforts across the public, private, people sectors, helping Singaporeans seize opportunities afforded by technology in their everyday life.

  • Our Singapore Fund for Digital Readiness

    The Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have partnered the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) to create a new stream under the Our Singapore Fund to support ground-up initiatives. 

    Eligible projects those which demonstrate the Singapore Spirit, enlarge the social commons and enhances Digital Readiness - may receive funding supports up to 80% of supported costs, subject to maximum of $20,000 per project.

  • Promoting reading in Mother Tongue Languages and equal reading opportunities

    Launched in 2016, the National Reading Movement (NRM), a five-year initiative by the National Library Board (NLB), aims to encourage all Singapore residents to:

    ‘Read More’ by setting aside some time to read regularly,
    ‘Read Widely’ by going beyond the usual genres and read in mother tongue languages, and
    ‘Read Together’ with family and friends

    Promote reading in MTL 

    The NRM places a large emphasis on reading in our MTL through the promotion of MTL programmes and initiatives. 

    Since its launch in 2015, NLB has grown its volunteer-run MTL reading clubs for children, from 4 to 22  . There are also 15 reading club for adults, encouraging  them to pursue lifelong learning through reading and learning in MTL. In addition, NLB expanded its reading materials to provide more MTL books and eNewspapers at the public libraries. 

    Equal reading opportunities for everyone

    NLB hopes to reach out to all Singaporeans to provide equal reading opportunities and extending its reach to help the less advantaged and in places where there may not be a public library in the vicinity. Here are some of NLB’s initiatives and programmes:

    NLB is looking to provide inclusive spaces for people with special needs through a collaboration with the Autism Resource Centre (ARC).
