Acting Minister David T E Lim to visit Australia and speak at World Congress on IT 2002 26 February - 2 March 2002


Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, and Senior Minister of State for Defence, Mr David T E Lim, will be visiting Melbourne, Victoria, and Adelaide, South Australia, from 26 February to 2 March 2002.

Minister Lim will be speaking on 1 March on "Growing the ICT Industry in Asia" at the World Congress on IT (WCIT) 2002. WCIT is a global IT conference that has been held on a biennial basis by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance, a consortium of 41 IT industry associations from key economies around the world and representing over 97 per cent of the world in IT markets.

WCIT 2002, held in Adelaide from 27 February to 1 March 2002, will cover issues such as the digital divide, future technologies and global initiatives. This year's theme is "Unleashing the Power".

In Adelaide, Minister Lim will meet with Senator Richard Alston, Australian Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.

Apart from information-communications and IT-related events, Minister Lim will also visit the Australia Arts Market and attend the official opening of the Adelaide Arts Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival. In Melbourne, he will visit a few arts organisations to study the latest developments in the city's transformation into an arts city.

Minister Lim will be accompanied by Mrs Lim and senior officials from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.
