Creative Youth Xchange to provide platform for youths' creativity

09/05/2005

Have you got a creative idea that defies traditional notions of space? Challenge yourself with the theme "5 Walls: Defying Definitions", re-interpret traditional definitions of space and submit your best concepts, plans and prototypes to the competition on Creative Youth Xchange @ Gallery Hotel. You could be realizing your creative dreams on a unique three-dimensional canvas.

2.     "Creative Youth Xchange aims to provide youth of Asia Pacific with a unique platform to showcase their most cutting-edge creative ideas and talents and to realise the potential of their ideas. This year, youths will literally take apart the concept of four walls and going beyond traditional notions of space to apply their creativity in the arts, design and media spheres. Creative Youth Xchange is not just about competing and winning, it is about reinventing conventions and re-defining norms in the Creative Industries," says Dr Tan Chin Nam, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications and The Arts.

3.     This unique 2005 edition of Creative Youth Xchange is co-presented by Creative Industries Singapore and the Gallery Hotel. "Gallery Hotel aims to be the hotel that inspires creativity. Creative Youth Xchange is a refreshing and revolutionary platform that allows us to put our vision into action," explained Mr Ted Ngo, Executive Director, Gallery Hotel, on this unique public-private partnership between MICA and Gallery Hotel.

4.     The top entries will be short listed and the participants will be flown to Singapore to realize their dreams in an exciting and intensive 2-week workshop on a three-dimensional canvas - the rooms of Gallery Hotel. They will also be mentored by leading creative individuals in this novel workshop. The final winners selected by international creative icons stand to win prizes worth more than S$20,000.

5.     Creative Youth Xchange was first initiated by Creative Industries Singapore, a division within the Ministry of Information, Communications and The Arts (MICA) in 2004. Creative Youth Xchange 2004 was a competition culminating in an exchange session. Creative Youth Xchange 2004 saw international creative icons as well as Singaporean business icons judging entries and sharing their insights with youth and top creatives on the challenges facing Asia's next generation of creative leaders. Among the judges were cinematic icon Francis Ford Coppola, legendary marketing strategist Al Ries, Ogilvy & Mather India Chairman as well as 1st Asian President of the Cannes Lion Jury Piyush Pandey, CEO of Banyan Tree Group Ho Kwon Ping and Jennie Chua of Raffles Holdings.
