117th IOC Session to showcase Singapore as a global city

06/07/2005

Singapore will be given an opportunity to showcase our city prior to the announcement of the 2012 Olympic Games host city at the 117th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session that is currently taking place in Singapore. The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA), in partnership with the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) have produced a video on Singapore entitled "Singapore - The Place To Be". The video will be first telecast "live" this evening.

2.     The live telecast of the IOC Session is expected to attract over 1 billion viewers worldwide. With this opportunity, the "Singapore - The Place To Be" video aims to showcase Singapore in a holistic manner, and capture the nation's spirit, soul and dynamism.

3.     The Permanent Secretary of MICA, Dr Tan Chin Nam said "It is an excellent opportunity to profile Singapore to an international audience. The video attempts to promote Singapore as a multi-cultural nation with a dynamic spirit - a global city with plenty of opportunities and the place to work, live and play".

4.     The video will take viewers through an exciting journey of Singapore, with picturesque sights which the world does not always get to see. Shot on film, the video has a cinematic feel, with a massive production that included aerial filming with "live" action shots. To create an emotive appeal, the music for the video was specially scored by Opuz Studios. This was then orchestrated and recorded "live" with an orchestra and choir, conducted by Lim Yau.

5.     Singapore was given the airtime slot, thanks to the effort of the 117th IOC Session Singapore Organising Committee headed by Mr Ng Ser Miang - for negotiating with IOC for this valuable airtime slot. MICA was then invited by MCYS to come on board to produce the video.

6.     MICA appointed a local branding and promotions company, Sticks & Stones Asia Pte Ltd to produce the video. The entire production team for the video is made-up of award-winning creatives, namely - Sticks & Stones Asia headed by Creative Director Ms Karen Cheah who worked with Director Peter Lau, Director of Photography Kane Chen, Opuz Studios (one of Singapore's leading music and sound design post-production facility) and Infinite Frameworks (one of the largest post-production houses in Singapore). The team worked very closely with MICA on the production of the video.

7.     Beyond the 117th IOC Session, this video will also be used to promote Singapore at various other international and local platforms.
