Formation of Ministry of Communications and Information


The Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) will be formed on 1 November 2012. MCI will oversee the development of the infocomm technology, media and design sectors; the national and public libraries; as well as Government’s information and public communication policies.  

2          This move follows the restructuring of the two previous ministries - Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) - into the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI), the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). REACH (reaching everyone for active citizenry@ home) will be part of MCI while the resilience, arts and heritage portfolios will be part of MCCY.

3          The Minister for Communications and Information is Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, with Mr Lawrence Wong as Senior Minister of State, Ms Sim Ann as Senior Parliamentary Secretary. Mr Aubeck Kam is the Permanent Secretary of MCI.

4          MCI’s statutory boards are Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), Media Development Authority (MDA) and National Library Board (NLB).

The dynamic green brush stroke, an evolution of the logo of MCI’s predecessor, conveys engagement in public communications and outreach to all sectors of our society to support a well-informed and connected society. The wave of the logo symbolises riding the wave of innovation in the info-communications, library, media and design sectors to offer our people a better quality of life. Balanced on the top of the wave is a bold red dot representing a vibrant Singapore.
