Students rise to challenge in translation competition supported by NTC

Around 200 students from 49 schools participated in 3T (Tatih. Terjemah. Tutur.), a Malay translation competition organised by National Junior College (NJC) and supported by the National Translation Committee (NTC). This is an increase from the 115 students from 16 schools that took part in last year’s inaugural competition held at NJC.

2 This is the first time that the NTC is supporting the competition, as part of its Community-in-Translation initiative, which aims to support ground-up efforts in translation activities, as well as raise translation capabilities and promote translation among the young.

3 Mr Chee Hong Tat, Minister of State for Communications & Information and Health and Chairman of the NTC, delivered the closing remarks at the competition. He noted the importance of bilingualism in a globalised world and multi-cultural society such as Singapore, and highlighted the critical role of students and teachers in ensuring the continuation of the Malay language.

4 In this competition, the participants were put through various challenges, such as translating sentences, short terms, as well dialogues from English to Malay and vice versa. Participants competed in two categories: the secondary school category and the junior college category.
