Just how well do you know Singapore?
“Steady Lah!”, the new reality TV show coming to Channel 5, takes a light-hearted look at how we build community bonds and celebrate diversity, including how foreigners are sinking their roots here and doing things distinctly Singaporean.
2 Brought to you by the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) in collaboration with Mediacorp and The Moving Visuals, the eight-episode series is part of the Ministry’s efforts to build better connections among communities through things that all of us like and enjoy. It will debut on 28 March 2017 on Mediacorp Channel 5, and air every Tuesday, 8.00pm to 8.30pm, until 16 May 2017.
3 “We are constantly exploring new ways to foster mutual understanding and respect between the increasingly diverse communities in Singapore. This is the first time we are doing a reality TV series. We hope, through this show, to foster a greater sense of togetherness through more shared experiences of the way we live, work and play,” says Ms Karen Tan, Senior Director, Public Communications Division, MCI.
4 Each week, local media celebrities Rosalyn Lee (aka Rozz) and Bobby Tonelli (American actor/presenter) will pose challenges to two foreigners to test their knowledge and adaptability to the Singaporean way of life. These challenges include: being a Singapore tour guide, social worker or hawker for a day, learning about local arts and sporting activities, and keeping our city clean and green. The participants try to “outdo” each other to see who is more “Steady Lah!”. The show will be a journey of discovery (and re-discovery) of all things and places Singaporean, that perhaps even some locals may not have experienced.
5 Each episode will also offer snippets on our foreign participants’ lives in Singapore, how they have settled in, their work and families, what they appreciate about Singapore, and their aspirations for the future.
6 The “Steady Lah!” cast are a mix of individuals from different countries, ages and professions, and they include:
- Allan Simonsen – 40-year-old game developer from Norway
- Saraswati Datar – 31-year-old writer from India
- Mark Jason Vargas – 32-year-old IT professional from the Philippines
- Evelyn Cheng – 23-year-old medical student from China
- Pansap (Patrick) Sittiyanonkorn – 24-year-old student from Thailand
- Rosa Park – 36-year-old ballerina from Korea
- Vika Nurina – 37-year-old content producer from Indonesia
