Singapore will be hosting this year’s Muzika Ekstravaganza (Muzika) on Friday, 7 July 2017.  Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information Dr Yaacob Ibrahim and Malaysia’s Minister for Communications and Multimedia Dr Salleh Said Keruak will grace the annual variety co-production as guests of honour.

Into its 11th year, Muzika is jointly produced by Singapore’s Mediacorp and Malaysia’s Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and underscores the close ties and collaboration between officials, broadcasters and artistes from both countries. Set to the theme of Love and Music (Cinta dan Muzik) this year, audiences can look forward to a night of star-studded performances. Muzika will be broadcast simultaneously on Mediacorp Suria and Malaysia’s RTM TV2 on Friday, 7 July 2017, at 9.00pm.

Muzika reflects the longstanding and excellent cooperation between Singapore and Malaysia in the field of info-communications and media, which were further strengthened with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation in the field of information and communication signed by Dr Yaacob and Dr Salleh last year. To implement the MoU, Singapore will host the inaugural Singapore-Malaysia Joint Committee (JC) Meeting on Information and Communications Co-operation from 6-7 July 2017. The JC is co-chaired by Mr Gabriel Lim, Permanent Secretary of Singapore’s MCI, and Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad, Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (Kementerian Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM)).

Mr Gabriel Lim said “The Singapore-Malaysia Joint Committee is a valuable platform to drive our bilateral cooperation in info-communications and media. The digital transformation of our two countries brings us many exciting opportunities, and raises common issues such as cybersecurity and digital literacy. Through the Joint Committee, we can share our experiences, develop new partnerships and learn from one another, and in so doing enhance the excellent relations between Singapore and Malaysia.”

"It is our hope that the outcome of this consultation not only permits greater agency to agency cooperation in the fields of information and communications, but also to provide a set of action plans to be implemented expeditiously and successfully to translate the objectives of the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) into vibrant and continuously evolving collaboration," says Dr Sharifah Zarah.

At the JC meeting, officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information and Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications and Multimedia will discuss areas of co-operation in television and film productions, info-communications media development, exchange of news, government communications, and digital technology.
