Brunei and Singapore continue to strengthen media cooperation through a new joint production, AKSI! (or Action!), between broadcasters Mediacorp and Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB). AKSI! engages high school and tertiary students from both countries in the creative challenge of video making.

At the invitation of Mr Amrin Amin, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (SPS), Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health, Awang Haji Azhar Bin Haji Yahya, Permanent Secretary (Energy), Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry is leading a delegation of Bruneian officials, broadcasters and students to Singapore to participate in the joint production. The delegation is being hosted by Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information.

Awang Haji Azhar Yahya and SPS Amrin will attend the finale of the filming of AKSI! as guests of honour at Golden Village VivoCity on 7 September 2018. At the finale, the jury and audience will evaluate the teams’ videos based on factors such as storytelling, creativity and originality, engagement, and technical quality.

Mediacorp’s Suria and RTB’s Aneka will televise AKSI! in October 2018. The programme will follow the journey of nine participants from Brunei and Singapore, as they worked in teams to conceptualise, produce, and edit their own short films with the theme “Relationship”. Mentored by filmmakers, the teams also took part in various challenges over the course of the programme.

The Singapore mentors and jury members involved in AKSI! include M Raihan Halim, Remi M Sali, Sanif Olek and Eric Ong. (See Annex for full list of the mentors, jury members and participants from both Brunei and Singapore.)

AKSI! is a collaboration under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) and Brunei’s Prime Minister’s Office. The MOU was first signed in 1990 and updated in 2014 to include cooperation in the field of information. The MOU today encompasses many areas of collaboration including in broadcast programme exchanges, joint productions as well as education, training and research.
