MCI's response to PQ on data protection complaints referred for alternative dispute resolution
Parliament Sitting on 1 April 2019
QUESTION FOR WRITTEN ANSWER
1201. Ms Sylvia Lim: To ask the Minister for Communications and Information (a) since the Personal Data Protection Commission started receiving complaints in 2014, how many complaints has it referred for alternative dispute resolution under section 27(1) and (2) of the Personal Data Protection Act; and (b) of the complaints sent for such alternative dispute resolution, how many resulted in complainants receiving settlement payments or other redress.
Since 2014, PDPC successfully facilitated a resolution between the complainant and the relevant organisation in 866 instances. In addition, one case was sent to mediation with the mutual consent of both parties. The settlement terms are confidential.
